Rangers' business this summer has been extremely frustrating for me and so many other fans. Personally, I wanted everything done yesterday.

People who have followed this column and watched our YouTube shows will have seen me write and talk about the need for an urgent rebuild of this squad and a restructuring of the wage bill. After weeks of frustration due to a lack of movement, we are finally beginning to see some activity.

Given that Philippe Clement’s side begin their Premiership campaign against Hearts tomorrow, that activity has come not a moment too soon.

For so many summers now we have talked about a rebuild and threatened it heavily but never really quite got to where ultimately the support thought we should be. This summer, the tolerance levels are extremely low, which I believe is a result of the relative lack of movement on the transfer front.

I include myself in that, I feel like all I have done is moan about inaction or stuff away from the pitch but, and I say this guardedly, I do feel like we are finally getting somewhere.

On the pitch, we are seeing a major overhaul and I believe another four or five players will leave. So far we have lost the likes of Connor Goldson, Borna Barisic, John Lundstram, Ryan Jack, Kemar Roofe and Sam Lammers -  who were all top earners. We also lost loan players Fabio Silva and Abdallah Sima, who were on big money. 

If you factor in the potential of more going - such as Ben Davies, Kieran Dowell, Rabbi Matondo, Ianis Hagi and Todd Cantwell - then that offers opportunities in the market for the manager. These are all players I feel can be replaced with recruits who offer better value for money.

The summer rebuild represents a major restructuring of the wage bill. So although there is work to be done, we still have the potential to move half a dozen on and have three or four quality first-team players arrive.

With the arrival of Vaclav Cerny and Robin Propper, I hope Rangers have signed the quality of player we require to make that next step. It feels like we have but I am no expert on either and, like most, can only go on reviews of what others are saying and those who have worked with them before.

Propper is a strong centre-back, described as a leader. He's physical and although not the quickest he's not slow either. Long, arrowed diagonal passes are seen to be his strength and he can play naturally on the left or right side. There is a reason he was captain of FC Twente, so he will bring a level of experience that we need.

This deal is a good one for our new structure and, hopefully, will represent value. Normally if a player leaves and the selling club's support are unhappy, you realise you may well have a player and that is the case with Propper.

All of a sudden I feel somewhat more enthusiastic ahead of the new season. We need a lot of work on this team but it’s slowly starting to emerge. If Propper and Cerny can be those players then the jigsaw, one which Clement has often discussed, will start to come together slowly but surely.

A few more pieces and that may really start to look promising. There is still work to be done, the season is starting and we all wanted more but it’s starting to feel like things are finally turning.

There is a lot to do. I am not naïve but I’m certainly feeling better about things. There is light at the end of the tunnel on the field of play. A victory at Tynecastle will help that and, of course, results will dictate the mood. Hopefully everyone will get behind the team and see a very good performance.

A couple of positive results against Hearts and Dynamo Kyiv will be most welcome and could just begin to see that summer malaise clear somewhat.
