Barry Ferguson is struggling to get his head around Rangers’ recent performances, well in his words, lack of performance.

Rangers fell to a 1-0 defeat against Kilmarnock on Sunday. That’s the third time they’ve dropped points from eight Scottish Premiership matches this season, leaving question marks over Philippe Clement’s long-term future in the Ibrox hot seat.

Ferguson was an eager spectator at Rugby Park and admitted that he was shocked Rangers didn’t use the impetus of Aberdeen and Celtic drawing the previous day as an extra incentive to win the game and close the gap on the top two.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, Ferguson said: “What an opportunity. You have to take these opportunities when they come around in terms of Celtic dropping points.

“Listen, in terms of a result, that was the perfect for Rangers both Aberdeen and Celtic dropping points.

“It was about making sure you win that game at Kilmarnock and claw back that couple of points.

“I was just sitting there scratching my head all through the game. I just couldn’t understand why Rangers were like that. I just expected more.

“It was very pedestrian, very slow in possession, they weren’t aggressive enough, and I expected more.

“That’s why they suffered the defeat and that’s why the manager’s saying it wasn’t good enough.”

Probed on what Clement could change since he can’t made any more acquisitions until January, the former Rangers captain replied: “The great thing about football is there’s just another game around the corner and they’ve got one on Thursday night against a Bucharest team that are not really flying high at this moment in time. They are fifth in their league.

“Rangers have got to go and perform and make sure that they get a result on Thursday night because the level of performance yesterday just wasn’t good enough.”
