Rangers have completed the signing of defender Neraysho Kasanwirjo from Feyenoord.

The Rangers Review reported on Friday morning that Philippe Clement was keen to strike a deal for Kasanwirjo to bolster his defensive options.

And we revealed later in the day that the move was signed and sealed. At 7pm, Rangers announced that the stopper had signed on loan with an option to buy.

Kasanwirjo, who spent last season on loan at Rapid Wein in Austria, is capable of playing at right-back or centre-back and has also featured at the base of midfield and as a left-back during his career. 

A product of the Ajax youth system, Kasanwirjo joined FC Groningen in 2021 before a move to Feyenoord in 2023, signing a deal until 2027. He featured 28 times in Austria last season on loan and is now likely to move on loan again to Glasgow.

“We are thrilled to welcome Neraysho to the football club and we believe he will be a big asset to the team," Clement said. “He can play in a number of defensive positions and will be a good option for the squad with the domestic and European commitments we have this campaign. He is looking forward to starting the next chapter in his career and we are pleased Neraysho has decided to join Rangers.”

Kasanwirjo has played for his country throughout various youth stages, with seven caps at under-21 level.

Rangers have been on the lookout for defensive cover after allowing Ben Davies to leave the club on loan. The 29-year-old joined Birmingham last weekend leaving Philippe Clement short at centre-back.

The news of Kasanwirjo arrival comes hours after Scott Wright completed his switch to Birmingham City. The winger has agreed a three-year deal in the Midlands after City made a £300,000 approach in recent days.

Wright was part of Steven Gerrard's side that won title 55 and he went on to score in the Scottish Cup final and play in the Europa League final. Wright notched 12 goals and seven assists after moving from Aberdeen during the 2021 winter window.
