Todd Cantwell is reportedly set to receive a Rangers transfer exit escape route back to England.

The Ibrox midfielder, 26, wants to leave Scotland after submitting a transfer request to Philippe Clement.

Cantwell informed Clement he wanted to leave Rangers during pre-season with the player not involved at all with the first-team or Rangers B team since. 

Now, it has been reported an English Championship club are ready to offer Cantwell a return down south after he called time on his period in Scotland.

The Scottish Sun report Blackburn Rovers are ready to offer Cantwell a deal in the final week of the transfer window. 

It is not yet clear whether Blackburn would target a loan or permanent transfer arrangement for Cantwell with Rangers keen to offload the wantaway playmaker to allow for their own reinvestment.

The speculation comes after Blackburn boss John Eustace admitted Rabbi Matondo was a potential transfer target for Blackburn this summer - however, that was before the winger's double against Ross County.

Clement confirmed last week that Cantwell's lack of involvement for even Rangers B - while team-mate Ianis Hagi has played for the side - was not a management decision.

"I'm not going to go into details about that," said Clement. "I can say it's not my decision."

And further detailing the reason for Cantwell's transfer request, he added: “Todd made his own opinion about things, why he doesn't want to stay in Scotland. 

“And I don't speak only about Rangers, it's more Scotland, why he wanted to leave."
