A former Rangers defender has left an SPFL side just weeks before the start of the season.

Ex-Hearts and Liverpool centre-back Danny Wilson has departed Queen's Park, according to a report.

The Scottish Sun claims the 32-year-old has left the Championship outfit by mutual consent.

Wilson joined the Spiders in February earlier this year, going on to make 11 starts for Callum Davidson's side.

One of those starts came in the Premier Sports Cup group stage loss to Hibs last night. The Scottish Premiership side ran out easy 5-1 winners in the capital.

Talks took place between club chiefs and the player, which resulted in the termination of his contract.

The ex-Rangers player is now a free agent with plenty of time to find a new club before the end of the registration window.

Wilson twice turned out for the Ibrox club. His rise through the academy and into the first team saw him earn a move to English Premier League giants Liverpool in 2010.

After stint as captain of Hearts, he then returned to the blue side of Glasgow in 2015.

He departed three years later, and embarked on a successful six-year spell with MLS side Colorado Rapids.

Meanwhile, former Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos is at the centre of a bizarre stand-off after Santos announced they had loaned him to Colombian club Athletico Nacional...only for his agent to deny it.

The ex-Ibrox striker spent seven years in Glasgow, but was allowed to leave last summer for nothing after falling out of form towards the end of his time in Scottish football.

His move to Pele's old club in Brazil has been an unmitigated disaster and he can't get a game for the club who are now playing in the second tier. He hasn't played since the start of last month.
