Rangers transfer news, rumours, targets and updates

Philippe Clement is keen to improve his League Cup-winning Rangers squad from last season, with Brazilian full-back Jefte having already committed his future to Ibrox and returning goalkeeper Liam Kelly among the Belgian's new recruits. 

Here is where we'll gather potential Rangers transfer business as it surfaces. Moreover, we'll be updating everything below between now and the start of the 2024/25 campaign, so be sure to check back over the course.

Rangers transfer news and rumours

Lawrence Shankland

Age: 28
Position: Forward 

There has been much speculation about current Hearts forward Lawrence Shankland and a potential move to Ibrox, but reports are conflicted. While the 28-year-old was heavily linked to the club in January with a transfer discussed by key decision-makers, the Rangers Review understands a move wasn't pursued due to the fee and make-up of the squad - with three No.9s over the age of 26 on Rangers' wage bill at that time and Danilo (then 24).

According to the Hearts Standard, however, despite all of this, Rangers have not made an official move for Shankland. 

Abdallah Sima

Age: 22
Position: Forward 

The on-loan Brighton forward has been a regular fixture whenever fit to appear under Philippe Clement. Having notched 15 goals before the winter break, Sima's injury at AFCON undoubtedly impacted Rangers' title push. The 22-year-old was only back for a handful of games before picking up another knock in the Scottish Cup semi-final win over Hearts. That included a vital goal in Rangers' 3-3 draw with Celtic in April.

The attacker's agent has previously stated that Sima would be open to continuing his career at Ibrox. That will depend on Brighton, however. A club notoriously well-run in the transfer market are unlikely to sell their international forward on the cheap.

Oscar Cortes

Age: 20 
Position: Forward

Cortes started brightly at Ibrox in January having joined the club on loan from Lens but hasn't been seen since a season-ending injury was sustained at Rugby Park in February. The 20-year-old is considered one of the brightest prospects in Colombian football but found minutes hard to come by after moving to Ligue 1 last season.

At the beginning of June, it was confirmed that Cortes had signed a one-year loan deal from French side RC Lens with an obligation to buy in the summer of 2025.

The official Rangers website reports the 20-year-old winger will then put pen to paper on a four-year contract at Ibrox through to 2029.

Jack Butland

Age: 31
Position: Goalkeeper

Clement has previously reasoned that Rangers can't afford to sell Jack Butland at any price this summer - even if others head out the Ibrox exit door.

The keeper, 31, has only missed one game all season and by some distance been the club's best performer through ups and downs under two managers.

“But there are also a few players I don’t want to let go for any price. Like Jack Butland? That is a good example, yes," Clement said. “I think that’s a very important thing for this club.”

The 12-cap England international was subject of an approach from Nottingham Forrest in January, with the Premier League outfit expected to return with a bid for Butland in the summer.

Jefte

Age: 20
Position: Left-back

Jefte, a left-back on loan in Cyprus from his native Brazil, appeared likely to join Rangers in the January window but with no exits for Ridvan or Borna Barisic a move never materialised. While the transfer was expected to take place this summer Jefte's current club APOEL were hopeful of keeping the defender at the club beyond the end of this current season.

This proved not to be case, however, when at the end of May Jefte was confirmed on a four-year-deal that will see him remain at Ibrox until 2028. 

Speaking to the official Rangers website after putting pen to paper, the 20-year-old said: "I am incredibly excited to join Rangers, this is a fantastic opportunity for me to take my career to the next level with such a historic and successful club.

"I am already looking forward to meeting my new teammates, working with the coaching staff, and continuing to learn and develop my game as a Rangers player."

Hamza Igamane

Age: 21
Position: Forward

Philippe Clement had targeted Hamza Igamane to bolster his Ibrox attack this summer with the 21-year-old forward having netted seven goals and six assists in 23 appearances last campaign. On July 5, Igamane became Rangers' seventh addition of the summer transfer window following Mohamed Diomande, Jefte, Oscar Cortes, Clinton Nsiala, Connor Barron and Liam Kelly.

Liam Kelly

Age: 28
Position: Goalkeeper

After much speculation, Rangers signed Liam Kelly on a two-year deal at the end of June. Having worked his way through the ranks in the club's youth academy, Kelly returns to Ibrox since first leaving in 2018. 

Speaking to the official Rangers website, Kelly said: "It is unbelievable to be back at Rangers, when I left, I probably never thought I would be back, but I am so delighted to be here.

"I know the size of the club, I spent 14 years here, so it is a great feeling, and I am looking forward to the new challenge. I am joining a really talented group of players and a really talented group of goalkeepers, so I am excited."

James Tavernier

Age: 32
Position: Right-back

The long-term Rangers captain has been subject of links to Saudi Arabia for some time, ever since his former boss Steven Gerrard took over Al-Ettifaq.

Tavernier moved to dismiss any notion of a summer exit, speaking recently after his PFA Player of the Year nomination, however.

He said: "It's obviously unbelievable that you have the backing from the manager but I think the speculation has been going on for about a year now.

It's football, there's always going to be speculation. To have the backing of my manager is really important, but I'm a Rangers player and I'm going to continue working hard for the team."

Connor Goldson, Ianis Hagi and Todd Cantwell are all other existing players who might be heading for the Ibrox exit during the current transfer window.
