Rangers' players are in for the summer of their lives.

Not in the most pleasant way though - but by Philippe Clememt's gruelling pre-season fitness schedule.

The Belgian has revealed that his players will have a regime to complete even during their holidays prior to their return to work.

Clement has lamented his lack of robustness, with the 50-year-old having to cope with a plethora of injuries throughout his tenure so far.

And he believes that a solid foundation must be built in terms of his squad's fitness levels in the close season to better prepare them for the next Scottish Premiership campaign.

He told BBC Sportsound: "The biggest scoop is that the foundation of the house is clearly not good.

"The players who are not prepared to play three games a week on high intensity because it's been all season we've had players out and players not ready for that.

"So for that, we need a really strong preparation. We're going to do this in the summer to solve this problem. That's one of the reasons and there a few others more that we're going to work on to make it better and to solve it."

He was then asked if that signalled that the players were in for the 'pre-season of their lives', to which the boss has this response.

He said: "And their summer break also of their lives because they'll have a programme also in their holidays, yes.

"That's what we're going to need to perform as a group next season in Europe and in the league and that the players can cope with more intensity than they did this season."

Rangers are currently completing their final home match of the season against Dundee.

A trip to Tynecastle beckons on Saturday afternoon before next week's Scottish Cup final.
