Informal discussions have taken place over the possibility of Rangers Women joining England's Super League.

It's understood officials have held exploratory chats over Jo Potter's side joining the English top flight.

In his piece for The Herald, Henry Winter revealed talks have taken place at a very basic level over the feasibility of the women's team joining the league system down south.

However, discussions to this stage with the Women's Super League have been exploratory only and not in anticipation of any move in the near future.

British football writer of the year Winter - who is covering the upcoming Celtic vs Rangers fixture - wrote: "Informal discussions, nothing more than exploratory chats, have been held with the (English) Women’s Super League about the possibility of Rangers Women’s Football Club joining in."

Rangers Women are currently competing for the SWPL title in an extremely tight battle with Celtic at the summit of the league table.

Celtic lead the league on goal difference - with a 13-goal advantage - with just three matches remaining.

Potter's side drew 0-0 with Celtic last time out handing Celtic the advantage given their significant lead in the goal difference column.

However, Potter - whose side face Glasgow City on Sunday, March 12 - still believes her side can lift the league crown even if they require a slip-up from their Glasgow rivals.

Asked whether she still believes Rangers can win the SWPL title, Potter responded: "Absolutely yeah. We have got to make sure we are doing everything in our hands to make it as hard as possible for Celtic if they are going to lift the trophy."

"If they win all their games, they win the league. That's not the case with us.

"We have got to make sure we are doing our business."
