Rangers have been handed an injury boost with Ross McCausland fit to take part in training despite fears of a serious issue.

The winger joined his team-mates in training at Auchenhowie this morning just days after hobbling off injured against Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership.

McCausland, 20, couldn't continue at Ibrox after feeling the effects of a strong Dan Casey challenge in the 2-1 loss.

Philippe Clement had blasted the challenge from Casey after the match branding it "too dangerous" as he revealed McCausland was struggling to walk in the immediate aftermath.

No foul was given for Casey's challenge with the Motherwell defender going on to score the winner for his side with a well-taken headed finish.

There was good news for Rangers though on McCausland's condition with the winger fully able to take part in training ahead of the Europa League last 16 first leg against Benfica on Thursday.

Abdallah Sima and Oscar Cortes are both out injured for Rangers leaving Clement's wide options limited in the league and in Europe.

But McCausland could now feature for Rangers in Portugal on Thursday.

"There was much too much intensity in that tackle. And he caught him," Clement had told BBC Sportsound.

"We got a few red cards this season already with less intensity than this but now it was not even a foul or a yellow card.

"That's very disappointing, for sure it's disappointing to have to make changes in the first half. For him, for the team you lose a moment also to arrange things you can use in the second half.

"These kind of tackles are just too dangerous for the game and you lose good players so I think it is a task also for the referees to protect the game and to protect players because this is too dangerous.

"Ross we need to see tomorrow. Of course it's serious because he had to come off, he could not walk anymore, so then there is a really, really hard contact.

"He doesn't come off in the first half for nothing. It's really clear that it was a serious foul."
