Steven Gerrard has been dealt a major blow as Al-Ettifaq manager with Jordan Henderson terminating his contract at the club.
Henderson had made the move to Saudi in the summer from Liverpool as Gerrard's new club invested heavily in the transfer market.
However, reports earlier this month suggested Henderson was keen to leave the club and return to the Premier League.
Reports have also linked Henderson with Ajax as he looks to return to European football after his experience in Saudi Arabia.
A club statement confirmed: "Al-Ettifaq FC of the Roshn Saudi League(SPL) and Jordan Henderson have today mutually agreed to terminate the player’s contract with the club with immediate effect.
"The decision follows an amicable conclusion to the relationship with the player.
Club president Samer Al Misehal said: “Firstly, the club would like to thank Jordan for his efforts and wish him the best for his future endeavours. We are always respectful of our players.
"The club and Jordan believe this quick decision, without any delay or further distraction, has been made for both the overall good of the club and for Jordan.”

Henderson commented: “I’d like to thank the club, the fans and all involved for the opportunity and wish them the best for the remainder of the season.
"A lot of hard work is going in which I know will pay off in the future.”
Al Misehal added: “There is a lot still to play for. But this is a very tough league and the team performances required and expected by the club in the second half of the season under coach Steven Gerrard demand complete unity and commitment from all players and staff, and we look forward to regaining new momentum from this point forwardthrough our winter training camp.”
The statement concluded: "Al-Ettifaq FC will continue to focus upon the club’s short-term goals during the 2023-2024 campaign as well as work towards the overall transformation of the club, as part of an ambitious long-term project."
The news comes as Ettifaq announced that Gerrard had penned a new deal with the club.
