Rangers hero Barry Ferguson is confident Philippe Clement will receive adequate transfer backing.

The Belgian signed a three-and-a-half-year deal with the Ibrox side earlier this month and the ex-Light Blues captain insists the board will give him funds in January.

Speaking to Go Radio, he said: "I know money might be tight because a lot of money was spent in the summer.

"The new manager coming in, I think they will try to find money from somewhere and bring in maybe two or three that the manager likes.

"It freshens the squad up as well. January is a tough window as generally the players you are going for haven't played much football either.

"But I am sure the Rangers board will try everything in their power to try and help the new manager."

And Ferguson already has his eye on someone Rangers can buy in the near future, with Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland being someone he is a fan of.

"I was so impressed with Lawrence Shankland," he continued. "Take away the goal, his link-up play, build-up play, I think as he's got older he's got better. \

"I would be enquiring and asking what is the script how long has he got left on his contract. What would it cost

"I am not saying Lawrence Shankland is going to score 30 goals in Europe or get you further in the Europa League.

"But he is a very good football player and I would be looking at that and thinking to myself 'is there a possibility that could happen?'
