Michael Beale spoke to the media after the 3-1 defeat at home to Aberdeen. Here is what he had to say.

What did you make of the game?

A horrible day obviously. A terrible result. We actually started the game really well and I thought Aberdeen were very compact and quite negative in their approach to the game early on but we managed to create three or four big chances. Three I thought were big chances. You don’t take them and you defend a set play as poorly as we did you go in at half-time 1-0 down. At that moment, we could have done without Ryan Jack and Ridvan having to come off because it compounds the situation where we have got a light bench. We reshuffled, started the second half OK and then concede off a set play again. We don’t deserve anything from the game today.

Are you confident you can turn things around?

The coming days will tell. I don’t want to sit here and talk things up after we have had a result like that. I understand the result we have had against a rival, if you like, in Aberdeen. Coming into the game, I couldn’t see that result coming. Certainly in the way we played in the first half we didn’t deserve the end outcome of the game but it is what we got and it isn’t good enough.

What would you say to the fans?

I understand there are a number missing injured. We lost two more today. There isn’t a lot that’s positive but it’s the situation we are in and we have to go again on Thursday and St Mirren and hopefully get players back. When you don’t take chances it deflates everyone and the confidence in the team.

Aberdeen clearly came to sit in but we managed to play through and over that and in those moments everyone expects us to take those chances. But you in at half time 1-0 down then concede from a set play with a guy scoring three yards out unopposed. It’s not good enough.

How confident are you that you will be given time to turn it around?

That’s someone else’s decision. All I can do is continue with the job the best I can. We felt we prepared well enough tactically. We went over and around it first half and created the chances. It’s a really bad result and we feel the frustration and despair because we share it inside as staff and players because first half we had enough chances to win that game.

Is the league still winnable?

Other teams have been here before, even last couple of years, and turned it around. We need to show better form than we have been. Today was the biggest domestic team since Celtic and we lost.

What can you say to the fans that will bring them back?

Listen it’s a situation that’s escalated much faster than i thought. I thought it was harsh to boo them off at half-time. We conceded from a set play but we played well enough to be 2-0 or 3-0 up. I get the frustration, they follow this club all around. It’s the fourth home game in ten days and pretty much all of them have been sold out. Sometimes the supporters could help the players but one or two could help themselves.

What does Cyriel Dessers have to do to get the fans on side?

He’s not living in the best moment of his career. He twice been top scorer in Eredivisie and top scorer in the Conference League at Feyenoord but he’s found it difficult. I’m sure given time he will show his quality but it’s fair he’s below the level he’d like to be.

Do you need more from the new signings?

The whole squad is accountable and the staff too. I don’t want to go into individual players. We’ve been Jekyl and Hyde. The problem in this club is we win a lot but when it comes down to decisive moments we create a lot and our conversion isn’t high enough. That leads to anxiety on the pitch and in the stands. We shouldn’t concede three at home in a game like today, no chance.
