- Clement's messages in first meeting
- Striving to win silverware this season
- Familiar faces will help him settle
Connor Barron has spoken to RangersTV after agreeing a four-year deal at Ibrox. Here is everything he had to say.
How do you feel?
I am absolutely delighted. Since it came on the go and we started chatting I knew straight away it was the place for me to come. Everything seemed right and I think it is the best place for me to be at this moment in my career.
How did you come to this decision?
It was a massive decision for me at this point in my career but it was made easy by the staff here and speaking to the manager and straight away I knew this was the place I want to be. European football, that opportunity to go and play on the European stage at a big club like Rangers is something I feel I will thrive off and something I am looking forward to doing this season. Obviously the size of the club as well, it is where they demand high things and demand winning football matches and trophies and that is something that, for me, I want to be part of.
How good a grounding did you get at Aberdeen to take the next step?
A lot. It has been great for me over there and I have got to pay my thanks to everyone at the club, they brought me in through the youth academy right through to now. I met a lot good people along the way. I am on to the next chapter of my career now and I thank everyone there and move on now to successful things.
Is it a case of continuing to push yourself?
It is a good group of boys we have got here and a big fanbase and a massive club. I think it will suit me down to the ground and I can’t wait to get going and show everyone what I can do out here.
What do you hope you can bring to the squad?
I have played in Scotland, I know the league and what it is about. I think I can help that with the boys here. I am a leader on the pitch, I like to get on the ball and dictate games and I also like to do the dirty side of it as well.
What was the manager’s message to you?
It was quite clear. He knew I wanted to come and he wanted me to come so straight away it was a perfect fit. We talked a lot about the way they want to play and the demands of Rangers Football Club and straight away it just felt right for me.
Who did you speak to here?
I spoke to some of the boys. It was nice to hear things from their side of it and some players who have played at the club as well and been involved in and around it. Everyone had good things to say. It was nice to get that from them as well.
What is your international experience like?
International football is great. I think coming here is going to help me get into the A squad as well, here’s hoping. I am with the 21s at the moment, we are doing well in the Euros. We have got Spain in September and take on them and hopefully we get through to the finals. The boys here are great when we go away and I can’t wait to meet up with them at club level.
Is it nice to know coming in you will have familiar faces?
It is always nice and it makes it that bit easier moving to a new club. I like to get in about people and meet everyone early and build some friendships off the pitch. I can’t wait to come in and meet the boys and get in about that changing room.
An exciting few weeks now to get started?
The first day on Monday for pre-season to see all the lads and get going for what is hopefully a successful season.
