Read what the manager had to say after tonight's defeat on penalties in the City of Glasgow Cup final.
It must be a disappointed dressing room?
Incredibly so. The penalties for me become irrelevant, I know that’s where the game is won and lost at the end but ultimately, we had an 11-minute power cut in the first half that put us on the back foot and gave us a mountain to climb. We almost went into our shells in the first half but in the second half, we showed much more personality and an example of how we want to play on and off the ball. We get goals back and ultimately, we have numerous chances in the second half to win the game in normal time. That’s where the pain hurts because we could’ve won it ourselves and we put ourselves in that position.
Is that the main frustration?
That’s the main frustration because we’ve just lost a cup final at Ibrox in our stadium against Celtic, it will hurt the boys right now but we know where the game has been won and lost. We’ve not spoken about penalties, we’ve spoken about how we’re going to move forward individually. We can’t put ourselves on the back foot, if you have a bad moment in a game it can’t be that you lose two or three in that moment of time. We have to be more secure and resilient. I’m so pleased about the reaction at half-time because that did show they did have character and personality, they just needed that reset moment. I’m so disappointed they’ve not won the game in normal time.
What is that power cut down to?
It’s a difficult one. We knew how we wanted to be out of possession, one or two moments we were maybe late with the press. A couple of the goals come off the back of us having possession, and I know Celtic will say the same but we’ve got to look after ourselves, set traps to get regains. If I look at two of the goals conceded, we’re in attacking moments where the final pass gets cut out and we could go to hurt them, that doesn’t happen and suddenly you’re open. You’re at your most vulnerable trying to attack and make a difference, that’s proved to be the case.
