Hurting James Tavernier issued an apology to Rangers supporters after the Scottish Cup final defeat to Celtic.

The Ibrox captain admitted the defeat at Hampden "really hurts" as he fronted up to the inability to win the game despite periods of dominance.

Tavernier accepted Rangers had moments to win at the national stadium but insisted any positives matter little having failed to capitalise against their Glasgow rivals.

Speaking to Rangers TV, he said: "Obviously devastated that we couldn't win the game. 

"The boys put a lot into that game but we fell short and it really hurts.

"It just hurts at the moment.

"It comes down to winning the game, no matter what, how or how you play or anything.

"I thought we were in control a lot but you have to win the game."

Tavernier hailed the "unbelievable" Rangers support at Hampden as the offered an apology on behalf of the Ibrox squad and vowed the team must deliver next season after a "massive rebuild".

"The support was unbelievable today, it's obviously a sore one for them and we can only apologise as a team," he said.

"I think the gaffer has said this summer is going to be massive for us, a massive rebuild.

"We have to look forward for that and deliver for the fans."
