Rangers will look to build on last weekend’s 4-0 win against Hearts when St Mirren visit Ibrox this afternoon.

And following a further Champions League defeat in midweek, Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side will be looking for a morale-boosting performance as well as a result.

As ever, the manager has a number of big calls to make. Alfredo Morelos or Antonio Colak, or both? Who plays from the right? One attacking midfielder or two?

Our writers have their say below.

The glamour may have been at Anfield but the far more important game for Rangers this week comes at Ibrox on Saturday.

Stephen Robinson's St Mirren are having a storming season so far and have already taken the scalp of Celtic in a bruising encounter.

Like his Motherwell side, the men from Paisley are physical, drilled and work their backsides off to make each game as difficult for their opponent as possible. It won't be an easy game.

That said, in the wide-open expanses of Ibrox, there should be plenty of space to stretch the game and van Bronckhost will need to go for the jugular.

There is a balance to be struck between resting those who played in midweek and maintaining a strong XI.

Ridvan Yilmaz might come into contention but it would be a gamble given the ruthless pragmatism of Robinson who might well sense an opportunity to exploit the defender at the back post.

Rangers Review:

You'd expect four of the five who played at Anfield to remain in the side, with Leon King unfortunate to drop out after a solid display.

In midfield, I'd bring back Glen Kamara to anchor and allow Lundstram and Tillman to push forward.

Up front, I'd look to light a fire under Ryan Kent by moving him to the right flank, letting Rabbi Matondo to start on the left of Antonio Colak, who is currently undroppable in domestic games.

Rangers XI: McGregor, Barisic, Tavernier, Davies, Goldson, Kamara, Lundstram, Tillman, Matondo, Kent, Colak.

Van Bronckhorst’s comments at yesterday’s press conference suggest calls for a Morelos and Colak front pairing may not be in vain.

Having initially seemed to dismiss the idea could the pair start together today for the first time?

Yilmaz has only made one league start to this point but given Borna Barisic will play against Liverpool in midweek, why not give the youngster his chance?

Davies' inclusion next to Connor Goldson makes sense given the significant outlay taken to secure his services. Even if King did well against world-class opposition in midweek.

To accommodate a front two, van Bronckhorst may have to select a midfield pairing. Could Lundstram be partnered by Kamara, with Kent and Matondo providing width?

Up top, if Morelos and Colak do play as a partnership, the former will likely drop deeper and link play, leaving the Croatian freedom to attack the box. Given Rangers’ slow starts at home and lack of goal threat at points, it could provide the firepower they need for a convincing result.

Rangers XI: McGregor, Tavernier, Goldson, Davies, Ridvan, Lundstram, Jack, Matondo, Morelos, Kent, Colak
