Rangers face a daunting task in search of their first Champions League points of the season this evening.

Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool side play hosts on matchday three before they travel to Ibrox for the return leg next week.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side approach the game on the back of Saturday's 4-0 win against Hearts. Following a difficult month of results, the three points were much needed.

Our writers predict tonight's starting 11 below.

Form is temporary but class is permanent, something van Bronckhorst should take into account prior to Anfield. An old adage yes, but such things remain in the culture because they are elemental.

The Dutchman should consider a back five with Ben Davies perfectly suited to the left side and sure to be motivated by his poor spell under Jurgen Klopp. Leon King, an 18-year-old with the world at his feet and composure to spare won't look out of place.

In midfield, John Lundstram, Ryan Jack and Glen Kamara offer a safety first approach with Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent expected to offer a threat in behind and on the counter.

Kent is another who will want to make a point to Klopp as a former charge, and with his contract up in the summer, a wider statement about his quality would no doubt help him secure the best possible deal from his next contract.

If Rangers can get anything out of this game, it will be an outstanding achievement and even narrow defeat would be acceptable.

They need big players to stand tall and graft for the cause, because the quality on show from the Reds makes them amongst the best squads in the world. You'd expect a team to be selected with the quality gap very much in mind.

Rangers XI: McGregor, Tavernier, Barisic, King, Goldson, Davies, Jack, Lundstram, Kamara, Kent, Morelos.

Van Bronckhorst opted for a back five against Napoli and given his side will have to spend plenty of time against the ball today, it's fair to expect he goes for a similar shape.

A defence comprising of James Tavernier, King, Connor Goldson, Davies and Borna Barisic feels most likely. While John Lundstram has shown himself capable of filling in at the back previously, you lose his presence in the midfield if shifted backwards. In a game of today's intensity, the Liverpudlian's influence in the middle will be imperative.

Kamara and Jack feel certain to join him in the three behind Morelos and Kent.

If Rangers can get Kent and Morelos in space, they'll hope to generate chances. That is if they can withstand the array of attacking talent Klopp has at his fingertips.

Rangers XI: McGregor, Tavernier, King, Goldson, Davies, Barisic, Lundstram, Jack, Kamara, Kent, Morelos.
