Philippe Clement says Todd Cantwell has asked to leave Rangers this summer.

The 26-year-old, who wasn't involved as Rangers lost 2-1 to Birmingham City in a friendly, joined the club from Norwich in January 2023.

Cantwell hasn't played for Rangers in any of their pre-season outings since a behind-closed-doors game against Hamilton Accies, prior to the club's pre-season training camp in the Netherlands.

Rangers have been open to offers for the Englishman all summer, with Clement now confirming the attacking midfielder has asked to leave Ibrox.

"Todd Cantwell came to me in my office a while ago, and we have a really good relationship so we talked for [a long time], to say that he feels ready for another adventure and challenge," he said.

"I spoke for long with him because I think Rangers is a really good club for him and I wanted to give him time also. That's why in the last couple of weeks I didn't speak about it. But he came back with the same request. I am going to be focused on the guys who in their heads are focused on Rangers."

Asked if Clement was close to joining another club, Clement added: "I'm not sure.

"He has been training with us all the time and played with the second team because of that, we need to focus on the guys who will be here in the next months."

The thousands of away supporters roundly booed a pitiful first-half display and you couldn't blame them. James Tavernier, a surprise starter given the noise surrounding his future, turned into his own net for the opener before Alfie May slotted past Liam Kelly eight minutes before the break.

Clement rang the changes at half-time with Connor Barron, Scott Wright, Leon King and Cyriel Dessers coming on and it was Wright who produced a moment of magic to spring Rangers into life with 20 minutes remaining but an equalising goal was to evade the Ibrox club.

Rangers round off their pre-season campaign with a trip to the German capital to face Union Berlin on Saturday but it is clear that this is a team in desperate need of quality additions and fast.
