Rangers have claimed the Scottish Cup 33 times throughout their illustrious history, with their most recent triumph in 2022. This impressive record underscores their longstanding success in one of the oldest and most prestigious football competitions. The 2022 victory added to this and was secured just days after Rangers reached the UEFA Europa League final.

The Scottish Cup competition is the second oldest football tournament in association football, behind the FA Cup in England. The Scottish Cup trophy, on the other hand, is the oldest - given that the FA Cup trophy itself has been replaced more than once since the tournament's inception.

Launched following the formation of the Scottish Football Association in March 1873, the Scottish Football Association Challenge Cup was rolled out as a knockout competition with 16 teams vying for the newly-formed title.

Held at the original Hampden Park on March 21, 1874, the final saw Queen's Park overcome Clydesdale, with the Spiders dominating in the tournament's formative years.

And while the Scottish Cup is be the second oldest tournament in world football, the Scottish Cup trophy itself is the oldest.

Unlike the FA Cup, which has been replaced more than once since its inception in November 1871, the silverware Scottish teams contest today is the same one those competed for in 1874. The Scottish Cup final 2024 between Celtic and Rangers was held on Saturday, May 25 at 3pm at Hampden. This was the first time the two sides had faced each other in the competition's ultimate stage in over 20 years, when Rangers ran out 3-2 winners in 2002. Goals that afternoon came from John Hartson, Bobo Balde, Barry Ferguson and a Peter Lovenkrands double.

There had been early suggestions that the Scottish Cup final 2024 kick-off time may be moved regarding television schedule clashes with the FA Cup final between Manchester United and Manchester City, however the SFA later confirmed the games would run concurrently.
