Rangers profile - everything you need to know about the Gers

Rangers were established by four teenage boys in Glasgow's West End and played their first-ever match later that year against the now-defunct Callander at Glasgow Green.

In 1929, Rangers held their first game at the newly-renovated Ibrox Park, a B-listed building located in Glasgow's Ibrox area, on the site of the current ~51,000-seat stadium

Of their 118 accolades, Rangers have won the Scottish League Title a record 55 times, the Scottish Cup 34 times, the Scottish League Cup 28 times, and the European Cup Winners' Cup once; the latter of which saw the Glasgow club overcome Dynamo Moscow 3-2 at the Nou Camp in Barcelona on May 24, 1972.

Throughout the club's 152-year history, there have been 19 Rangers managers – from William Wilton to the legendary Bill Struth, ex-players John Greig, Graeme Souness and Ally McCoist, Steven Gerrard and current boss Philippe Clement to name but some of its most iconic leaders.

Cyriel Dessers is Rangers' top scorer this season so far with five goals - four scored in the Scottish Premiership and the other in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers.

Who is the Rangers manager?

The Rangers manager is Philippe Clement, who joined the club following Michael Beale's departure in October 2023. During his playing days, the Belgian internationalist was capped 38 times for his country and played at club level for Beerschot, Genk, Club Brugge, Coventry City and Germinal Beerschot.

After retiring in 2011, Philippe Clement moved into management, filling the dugout at the likes of Waasland-Beveren, Genk, Club Brugge and Monaco, before moving to Ibrox – leading his side to a Scottish League Cup victory just two months later.

Philippe Clement has won a host of accolades at player and managerial level, having also been named Belgian Manager of the Season at the end of the 2018/19 Belgian Pro League campaign, and Belgian Best Coach of the Year in 2019 and 2020.

Who are the Rangers coaches?

The Rangers assistant manager is Stephan van der Heyden, who arrived with Philippe Clement when he joined the club in October 2023. The Rangers management team is otherwise composed of Alex Rae and Brian Gilmour, with Colin Stewart continuing his role as lead goalkeeping coach, the latter of whom stepped into the role in 2017. An ex-Rangers player, Alex Rae had assisted caretaker boss and fellow ex-teammate Steven Davis ahead of Philippe Clement's arrival.

Brian Gilmour, on the other hand, stepped up from his role in the Rangers academy. Tom Taylor is also part of the Rangers management team as Head of Performance, having moved from English Premier League side Brighton in November 2023.

Rangers stadium

Rangers play their home games at Ibrox Stadium, a ~51,000-seater capacity stadium and the third-biggest football arena in Scotland. First opened in situ as Ibrox Park at the end of the 19th century, the ground saw significant renovations in 1929 – at which point it was upgraded to become a B-listed building. 

In the 1970s the stadium underwent significant redevelopments, becoming an all-seated stadium over the course of the next decade. When the most recent round of significant renovations were completed in 1997, the ground was renamed Ibrox Stadium.

With Ibrox undergoing renovations, Rangers are currently playing their home games at Scotland's national stadium, Hampden Park.
