Gareth Southgate is at Ibrox this afternoon as he takes in the Old Firm derby.

The England manager is watching Rangers host Celtic in a crucial match in the Premiership title race.

Reports emerged on Saturday night to suggest the ex-Middlesbrough man would be in the stands to watch Jack Butland in action. 

The former England No.1 has been in contention for a place in Southgate's Euro 2024 squad this summer.

The ex-Crystal Palace and Manchester United back-up is yet to get a call-up under the national team head coach, but he's not yet given up on his dream of representing his country again. 

And Southgate will be impressed with what he's seen of Butland so far in the derby encounter, with the 30-year-old keeping Philippe Clement's side in the game during the first half. 

The Hoops raced into a lead after 30 seconds after a huge error by James Tavernier saw Daizen Maeda tackle the ball into the net, leaving Butland no chance.

The keeper then pulled off a series of top saves from Maeda and others to top the score from getting any worse. 

That was until the visitors were awarded a penalty for a Connor Goldson handball, which Matt O'Riley cooly slotted home with a chip down the middle of the goal.

It's advantage Celtic at half-time, as they look to take a four-point lead in the title race with just six games remaining.

Meanwhile, Rangers chief executive James Bisgrove has finally broken his silence on the new agreement to see European-style away allocations for matches against Celtic.

Last week, the SPFL confirmed away fans will return to matches between Rangers and Celtic from next season after an agreement was reached in talks.

Both clubs have agreed to a five percent allocation for away supporters at Celtic Park and Ibrox for derby matches.
