Philippe Clement has explained a "wrong decision" led to Benfica's goal against Rangers.

The Ibrox boss admitted a mistake from Mohamed Diomande allowed Rafa Silva to race clear and score the winner in the Europa League.

Rangers conceded the decisive goal just seconds after their own corner as Angel Di Maria nodded through to Rafa to slam into the bottom corner.

On the goal, Clement explained: "We made a wrong decision making.

"If Dio just goes with the attacker, nothing happens in that situation but he is still a young player who plays for the first time at this level and he played a really good game.

Pushed on whether his side were left exposed from their own corners, Clement said: "Because they have a lot of quality, that’s one thing.

"And the goal we get against us we make the wrong decision.

"I don’t think they created a lot of chances out of that.

"We had also a counter-attack in the first half on set-pieces."

Ibrox icon Ally McCoist said of the goal: "That cannot happen from your own corner. I don't care who you are or what level you are, I'm afraid to say, that cannot happen at any level of football.

"That is your corner and two passes and Rafa Silva - who in my opinion I thought was the best player on the pitch, I thought he was absolutely terrific - all of a sudden he is through with the goalkeeper to beat.

"You have got to call it as you see it. I think it is a terrible goal to lose defensively.

"I think this Rangers team did themselves proud over the two legs but in that particular situation, that little bit of analysis...they got one or two warnings in the first half.

"That wasn't a one-off I reckon it was two or three times in the first half where Rangers have got a corner in the wide area and I'm looking and they've not got a defender 50-60 yards from their own goal."
