Robbie Savage couldn't resist a cheeky swipe at Chris Sutton after Rangers' victory over Celtic.

The pundit was quick to reference Rangers' 3-0 win at Ibrox to Sutton on BBC Radio 5Live.

Savage - praising the performance of Michael Beale's side - declared 'Glasgow is blue' as he attempted to rile up Sutton.

The pundit remarked: "It was a game you said didn't really matter. Rangers win it 3-0, Rangers were very good today Christopher. Glasgow's blue!"

Sutton - who had claimed the match didn't matter - replied: "I love watching the Glasgow derby games but I just had my eye on it today. I wasn't interested. It didn't mean anything really. I just don't get it, well done Rangers, win the games that don't matter, you have won the doesn't matter trophy.

"In the games which counted this season, Celtic won the League Cup final, knocked them out the Scottish Cup, spanked them 4-0 earlier this season. Rangers win a game that doesn't matter, well done!"

Savage then pressed Sutton on his claims as he insisted the derby clash always carries weight and questioned whether Rangers have closed the gap on Celtic.

The former striker conceded Celtic have "faded" but was adamant the match was largely meaningless as he branded Rangers' season "an absolute disaster".

Sutton added: "There is nothing on that game. The games that mattered this season, Rangers didn't turn up, that is a fact, Celtic won the Premiership at an absolute breeze.

"I mean, well done Rangers. But Glasgow is blue and all that nonsense, there are Rangers players who may probably tweet that out this evening. This season has been an absolute disaster for them. Has the gap closed? Do you win a closed the gap trophy as well?

"It's about winning and I think the last month truth be told Celtic have faded a little bit. Rangers needed to keep the pressure on, they didn't, it was Celtic Reserves, it was like a bounce game for Celtic."
