Philippe Clement says Dujon Sterling will miss Rangers' final game of pre-season due to a "small muscle problem".

The right-back was due to start his side's game against Union Berlin as preparations continue ahead of next weekend's opening game of the season against Hearts.

James Tavernier instead resumes his role at right-back having returned to the starting 11 during a 2-1 midweek defeat against Birmingham City. The 32-year-old has been the subject of a transfer bid from Trabzonspor with his Ranegsr future up in the air.

Sterling, 24, has predominantly filled in around the pitch since arriving at the club last summer but is expected to play at right-back this coming season.

And Clement explained pre-match that the defender would've be risked for today's game against German outfit Union due to the complaint.

"Dujon Sterling had a small muscle problem today so we are not going to risk that," he said.

"Normally he was starting and Kieran Dowell is sick so he drops also out of the selection, because of this it is a little smaller than expected."

Meanwhile, Rangers have officially confirmed the signing of Vaclav Cerny. The Czech Republic international has joined the Ibrox club on loan for the 2024/25 season.

The Wolfsburg forward will spend the campaign playing for Philippe Clement in the Scottish Premiership. It's understood there is no obligation to buy the player as part of the agreement.

On signing for Rangers, he said: “It is a very nice day for me. I am happy to be here and I can’t wait to get started.

“Obviously from the first talks with the manager, it gave me a very good feeling and from there on I would say it went pretty fast. I was happy about the contact and just couldn’t wait to come down here and be here and experience it all.”
